presentation of the candidacy of Andrew

Andrea, the candidate

Many of us have signed with other , founded the London PD, a year and a half ago, others just joined: together we support with enthusiasm the candidacy of Andrea Biondi at the first Secretary of our group!
We think Andrea is the right person to lead the London PD and feel the personal contribution of everyone, including yours, as crucial for the future of our club.

Many of us have known Andrea in these years of commitment. There has never disappointed, always ready to get busy and involved in all new initiatives. We have always seen smiling, positive and bearer of concrete proposals. We deserve our trust to lead the London PD with competence, honesty and enthusiasm.

Andrew is Professor of European Law at King's College London and Director of the Centre of European Law. His academic career has been entirely developed in England began as part-time tutor to professor. Andrea is also a Visiting Professor at other universities' (Georgetown University, Washington College of Europe, Warsaw Universidad Catolica in Lisbon). In particular, an expert on the EU single market, state aid and EU case law.

Andrea has always made its contribution with courage and passion. He participated with commitment to election campaigns of 2006 and 2008 - for the latter was among the four candidates proposed by all of us at the National Leadership of the PD - and one of the founders of the London PD. He has promoted and organized by the London PD initiatives with Italian and European parliamentarians on various issues, initiatives that have attracted much more interest. He helped reform proposals such as the Law on international requests, and in 2004 he wrote and sponsored a petition to the European Parliament (3000 signatures of citizens of different party affiliations) on the violation of freedom of information by Italy.

London PD, small but free!

We want to create a group of people, and not Italian, which will help to renew the center-left Italy. We are not interested in the bickering between the current party. We believe in a London PD that is nourished, grows and enriches through the experiences of everyone, even your own! Human experience, professional, cultural and political differ from each other but with one thing in common: the desire to work hard to change things! The PD

London is not and must not become another small center of power to serve an electoral committee in times of elections, or hold meetings and dinners for the powers that be. The PD and London 'and should remain free, clean and made of ordinary people. We want to promote and represent the needs of change that we all feel without being influenced by the Party. The latter's share and we follow the papers. We plan to implement these documents, however, through actions concrete policies, which also arise from our being in London and the school of democracy that this country stands for. The London PD is small and has few means but it is precisely for this reason the ideal place to start doing.

PD London, to do what?
PD
We want a clear and concrete. Our country is tired of programs full of empty phrases, there 'need for clear policies and actions of people are clear, competent and respected that passion that he takes responsibility. The PD London offers just that: a very concrete act that combines the experiences of British and European left and the new project of the Italian PD, too often locked up himself. We are not interested chasing the day's events. We want everyone to work together on issues and initiatives to be chosen on the basis of the general. We want concrete proposals and solutions related to these questions come from our skills and experience. We believe that each of us can provide points of view, program ideas and proposals for political action relevant to Italians in Italy as in Britain.

In this direction we have identified some specific issues that we deal not only to make our voices heard but also to give us clear goals and constructive. We believe that the best way to achieve this end is an open and direct PD between London and those "people leg "involved, at national and European issues that are important to us.

Concrete examples

propose from now on a number of initiatives related to issues on which the PD wants to commit and London has something clear, useful and practical to say:

1. The PD must be deployed on the London issue of the Italian authorities abroad. That is, Comites and CGIE. The orientation of government is to postpone the 2009 elections. We propose instead to insist on discussing the draft law to reform the two bodies proposed by Sen. Claudio Micheloni (elected by the PD in the foreign jurisdiction). Sen. Micheloni, with whom Andrea Biondi has worked, is available for a public meeting in March to discuss with the London PD possible reforms. The meeting will also give us the opportunity to discuss with the Senator our position on the need for representation of the Italian community in Britain.

2. The recent actions of the government in immigration not only undermine the fundamental guarantees of the person and are in contrast with European rules, but most are ineffective, unclear and unrealistic. The shameful exploitation of the immigration issue for political purposes must be denounced and exposed. We propose to organize a meeting in London on these issues in the Sen. Livi Bacci, who for years dealing with migrants. Apart from him, have already expressed willingness to join representatives of NGO's of London and the courts of the Immigration Tribunals. We believe the precious opportunity to meet with people working in this field and undertake both in the UK and Italy. The purpose of the meeting is to prepare a document to be submitted to parliamentary committees, recommending changes and denounce the illegality contained in the new rules.

3. Yes, even television. We propose a meeting to discuss freedom of information in Italy. It's not about anti-Berlusconi is concerned - in fact - of freedom! The Hon. Gentiloni, Minister of Communications during the Prodi government, has given us the willingness to confront us in the May 8 meeting. We plan to invite the community of the British media has always been rightly concerned about the situation in Italy. The meeting will be preceded by the development of a document to be presented to the press.

4. Scientific research: this issue is particularly close to heart and we believe should be addressed in a different way than usual discourse on the return flight and brain fled abroad. We want to discuss the bill on the Italian Foundation for Research Science and Technology that will soon be presented by Hon Garavini, elected for the PD in the foreign jurisdiction. This proposal is based on work by a group led by Riccardo Spezia (Paris PD) and which also includes Andrea Biondi.

5. The next European elections. We refuse to consider it as a step to define the power struggles inside the PD. We believe however that - in the total absence of any serious debate in Italy - we must all focus on the selection of competent and prepared to send to Strasbourg. The European Parliament shall, jointly with the Council, the Community legislature, in other words has the power to decide which laws will apply Italy's future. The new European Parliament will be confronted with the approval of new Community rules on areas important to the lives of everyone. They focus on health care, government procurement, environment, the principle of equality, and so on. We propose to write an open letter signed by all PD Europe to ask for new applications and competent. The PD of Paris has already joined this initiative.

* * * We

members and supporters of the London PD support and strongly support the candidacy of Andrea Biondi as secretary of our group.
